THINGS I’M LOVING THIS MONTH: AUGUST

IMG_1041 copy

Hi lovelies!

August has been a beyond crazy month for me- I moved across the country and started graduate school!  I am still trying to adjust to the weather and the bustle of city life, while also trying to keep up with all of the new information that school is throwing at me.  If anyone has any recommendations that could help me figure out this humidity situation, I would love to hear them!  I’ve always lived in a fairly dry climate and I’m quickly figuring out how different it is just going outside in a humid area!  Anyways, if you’re interested in the things that I’ve been loving this month, just keep reading!

1. Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Foundation

I’ve seen this product around YouTube a ton recently so I decided to give it a try!  It took me a few times to get the hang of applying it because it doesn’t seem like applies well with a makeup sponge, which is what I normally use, so I had to switch to a liquid foundation brush and get some practice with that instead.  Once I got the hang of it, I started to really like this foundation!  It blends out really easily and doesn’t feel heavy on my face!  It does take a few pumps to cover my entire face but the pump dispenses a fairly small amount so I don’t feel like I’m caking it on or anything.  If you’re looking for a full-coverage foundation, you should definitely check this one out!

2. Kate Spade ‘out to lunch tote’

We get a short lunch break in between classes during the week so I started bringing my lunch with me every day.  I needed a lunch bag that didn’t make me look like I was ten years old again so I set out for an adult lunch bag.  I found this one at Kate Spade and it is so cute! It wasn’t too expensive and looks great with my school bag.  It is a little on the smaller side but I’m the type of person who eats food if it’s in front of me so the small size actually works better for me!

3. Hello Vino (iPhone App)

I’ve always been more of a wine girl than beer or anything else but I always stress a little bit when I go to the store to pick out a bottle of wine and want to try something new.  I like trying new wines but am hesitant to get a whole bottle of something I might not like.  I started using this iPhone App called Hello Vino that helps me select wines I might like based on my specific flavor preferences and I am obsessed!  I love how easy it is to use and feel much more confident picking out different things to try.

4. Pureology Strength Cure Shampoo and Conditioner

I’ve actually been using these products for a little over a year but I’m going to talk about them here because during the move, I had them packed in boxes so I was using shampoo and conditioner that I picked up from the drugstore.  After just a few days, I really started to notice a difference in how my hair feels when I’m using drugstore products versus the Pureology products.  The Strength Cure line keeps my hair smooth and hydrated and it smells amazing!  It is a bit on the pricey side but I always purchase it in the jumbo size for the best deal and it makes my hair feel so soft and luxurious so I think it’s totally worth it!

Thanks for reading! Until next month!

BUSINESS/PROFESSIONAL OUTFITS HAUL

Hi lovelies!

I’ve been talking about my move to Boston for a while, but what I didn’t mention was that I was moving to go back to school to get my MBA!  The past few weeks, I’ve been updating my wardrobe a bit so that I’m business school ready.  So today I’m going to do a haul post and share with you some of the pieces that I have picked up  in the process!

IMG_0990

Black slacks are such a staple in any wardrobe, but especially in a professional setting.  They go with everything and this pair from LOFT is so comfortable!  I’m usually a dresses and skirts kind of girl but I don’t mind wearing pants that are as soft and breathable as these are.  LOFT is also having a great sale right now on their pants, so be sure to check it out!

IMG_0992

Speaking of staple pieces, a classic blazer is such an easy way of dressing up any look!  I was in the market for a new, good quality blazer that would last me for a while and that is what I found in this blazer from New York & Company.  It has just one button for a simple look and is the perfect length to pair with slacks or a skirt.

IMG_0981

But since I’m me and I’m usually found wearing a skirt, one of my favorite professional looks is pairing a blazer with a simple dress.  This one from LOFT is perfect because it’s a great length and is nice and light so I don’t get too warm with the blazer on.  It’s also on sale right now and it can definitely be dressed down so it can be worn with a ton of different looks as we head into fall!

IMG_0986

This is another pair of shoes that I was really debating about because the price point was a little steep for me for flats but I decided to go ahead and pick them up before classes started and I am so glad that I did!  This will definitely not be my last pair of these adorable shoes!  They are so comfortable- I wear them all day without any issues and they go with everything that I own.  I highly recommend them!

IMG_1001

I love a good statement necklace- it brings so much to a look, especially since I have a tendency to pick neutral colors like grey and black, it can add such a cute pop of color!  I picked this one up from New York and Company and they’re having a huge sale on accessories right now so it’s the perfect time to add a couple of these to your collection!

CONCEALER COMPARISON

Hi lovelies!

Today I’m going to be talking about a few of the different concealers I’ve been using for the past few years.  I have quite a lot of acne scaring on my face and recently moved to Boston where it gets very humid in the summer so both coverage and longevity are my priorities when choosing a concealer.  I didn’t put these in any particular order because I do see a lot of pros and cons for each of them depending on what you look for most in your concealer.

1. Too Faced Born This Way Naturally Radiant Concealer

Like its foundation counterpart, the Born This Way Concealer definitely leaves a very natural and airbrushed looking finish.  For me though, it doesn’t have quite as much coverage as I’m looking for in some of my problem areas.  If very full coverage isn’t something that you need, then this is a great one to use.

2. bareMinerals Bareskin Complete Coverage Serum Concealer

The entire bareMinerals line is an oldie but a goodie for me- I’ve been using this brand since I was in high school and I keep coming back to it.  This concealer is so light, I forget I’m even wearing any makeup.  It is unfortunately light to medium coverage for me but I do still use it on days where I don’t have as much redness going on around my blemishes.

3. Make Up For Ever Full Cover Concealer

The MUFE concealer has really good coverage- enough for me to love it but it doesn’t seem to last on my oily skin for as long as I need it to for those super long days.  I usually only wear it and the MUFE foundation when I know I won’t be out all day and will have a chance to touch up my makeup a bit.  It is labeled as a waterproof concealer but I haven’t ever actually worn it in the water to be able to verify whether it holds up or not.

4. Smashbox Studio Skin 24 Hour Waterproof Concealer

This one is currently my most reached for concealer.  It has uh-mazing coverage and lasts all day, even in this summer heat.  It is very blendable and easy to work with when you first apply it but it doesn’t budge once it dries so you do have to work a little quickly with it.  It is my holy-grail concealer, I can apply it in the morning and go all day with it and not worry about it getting splotchy or fading as the day goes on. It’s also waterproof and I have actually worn it in the water and it held up great so that’s definitely a plus for me!

WHAT’S IN MY BAG: HIKING DAYPACK EDITION

IMG_0898

Hi lovelies!

If you’ve been following my blog for the past few weeks, I mentioned in my June Favorites post that I would be driving across the country this summer and making several stops along the way.  In a few of the stops we planned doing day hikes at various State and National Parks.  So today I’m going to be doing another What’s in my Bag post featuring the items I carry in my backpack for those longer hikes- if you’re interested in my beach bag version of this post, you can check that out here.  This post has a lot of different items to cover so I’m going to try to be a bit more brief than usual in my descriptions but feel free to leave a comment below if you have any questions about any of the products mentioned!

  1. Watch– The Polar A300 fitness watch is my favorite watch for any sort of work out activity- whether I’m hiking or running or just out for a walk.  I pair it with a heart rate sensor and it provides me with feedback like how many calories I’ve burned and percentage of daily activity goal that I have achieved.  The watch band is also comfortable enough for me wear for a few hours and easy to wash.  The only thing that it is missing for me is the distance traveled but I’ll usually use a website like Mapmyrun.com to figure that out after I’ve finished working out so it isn’t too much of an issue for me.
  2. Hiking boots and socks– This one seems like a no-brainer but really, a great pair of hiking boots with some nice thick socks makes a huge difference in how much you actually enjoy your day of hiking.  Nothing ruins amazing views like aching feet!  I picked up this pair at REI and they are so comfortable!  The height is perfect so my ankles have a little added protection but not so much so that it inhibits my movement in any way.  Just make sure you take your hiking boots out for a couple of walks in the time leading up to your hike to make sure they are properly broken in!
  3. Jacket– My favorite camping/hiking jacket is The North Face Apex Flex GTX Jacket- mine is in the color TNF Dark Grey Heather.  It is totally waterproof but so breathable and does a great job keeping me warm when the weather cools off.  I sized up so I would have the option of layering it but so far I haven’t needed to.  As with most cool weather gear, the price point is a bit high at $199 but I have gotten so much use out of it and it still looks great so I would say it’s definitely worth the price!
  4. Water bottle– Hydro Flask is my holy-grail water bottle brand.  I’m one of those people who prefers to drink really cold water, so I am constantly on the hunt for insulated bottles that keep ice cubes in my drink for long periods of time but don’t sweat on the outside of the bottle so I can carry them in my bag without worry.  This bottle achieves both of these and comes in a few different sizes as well.  I definitely recommend this bottle to keep you hydrated!
  5. Food- I always make sure I have a few protein bars packed in my bag when I know I’ll be out for a few hours, they take up very little room and it’s just never a bad idea to have a little bit of a boost with you for a long day of activity!
  6. Sunscreen- This is so important guys- your shoulders and face are going to be constantly exposed to the sun while you’re out and you have to protect them!  I prefer the sport sunscreen for hiking because I have found that it holds up the best against all of the sweating that goes on through the duration of the day.
  7. Hand sanitizer and baby wipes- I’m a little bit of a dirtophobe- which I’m pretty sure isn’t an actual word but you get what I mean!  I am constantly using hand sanitizer, no matter where I am so being able to keep my hands, etc. clean when I’m out for a day of hiking just always makes my life a little easier and I think that you’ll find you have way more uses for baby wipes than you ever thought you would- those things are handy!
  8. First aid kit- This can either be something you put together yourself or something that you pick up at a sporting goods store- mine is from Dick’s Sporting Goods- but either way I think that it is super important to have the basics with you! Neosporin, Aspirin, Hydrocortisone, bandages of a few different sizes- you get the drill, anything you think you might need in case you run into any issues during your day.

My backpack is The North Face Women’s Surge Backpack and it is so comfortable for me to wear all day with plenty of padding on the straps and added buckles for added support!

MY FAVORITE THINGS PART II

CEEBE49C-F143-4C3B-8B93-CBD60EA92523

Hi lovelies!

Today I’m going to be adding to my original My Favorite Things post- I had so many things that I wanted to share with you guys the first time that the post ended up being crazy long, so I decided to separate it into two segments.  So, here we go with four more of my holy grail, all time favorite items:

1. Favorite Makeup Item

If you’ve been following my blog for the past couple of weeks, you know that I have battled oily skin and acne since I was a teenager and have always struggled to find a good foundation that didn’t feel too heavy but held up against my troublesome skin and busy schedule.  The Urban Decay All Nighter Liquid Foundation is the best one I have found that achieves both.  I apply it with a makeup sponge and it is super blendable, easy to work with, and leaves a natural airbrush-looking finish!  It is a bit pricey but I have found that a little bit with this product goes a long way and I can achieve a full-coverage look with less than one pump of foundation.

2. Favorite Place to Shop

This one is constantly changing depending on the season.  You know how that goes- you’re obsessed with the summer line but then the fall clothes come out and suddenly you aren’t sure if you’re even in the same store.  Lately, my go-to has been LOFT.  They always have different sales going and I find great quality stuff that I am able to pair so many different ways and create more looks with one piece.

3. Favorite Book

One important thing to know about me is that I am a total bookworm.  Reading has been my escape since I was a little girl and majorly into with Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys.  Even now, mystery is still my favorite genre but one book has always stood above the rest.  And Then There Were None  by Agatha Christie is a timeless and haunting murder mystery that I find myself re-reading over and over and recommending to anyone who asks.  You only think it’s a classic “whodunit” but you’ll just have to read it for yourself to find out.

4. Favorite Beauty Accessory

The https://www.t3micro.com/product/volumizing-hot-rollers-luxe speak for themselves.  They are super easy to put in, leave my hair feeling soft, and deliver huge results- plus they heat up super quickly, a major plus if you’re like me and usually getting ready at the last minute.  I do have to apply a light layer of hair spray with these, which I don’t usually with a traditional curling iron but the time saved getting ready when I can simply throw these in, do my makeup, take them out and be ready to go makes them totally worth it.

BREEZY RED SWING DRESS

Hi lovelies!

Today I’m going to be talking about one of my recent purchases- this red dress with a beautiful swing silhouette.  I picked it up at a store that my sister absolutely adores called No Rest for Bridget.  I had never heard of it before she took me there but I found a few super cute things there, all at great prices.  The fabric is so comfortable and perfect for this humid summer weather we’ve been having!  The neckline has adjustable laces that both add fun detailing but also make the top part of the dress a little bit customizable so you can wear it how you want to.  The material does seem to be a tiny bit sheer in the sun so I threw on a pair of spanx underneath so I didn’t need to worry about anything showing through.  Other than that, I love absolutely everything about this dress!

I paired the dress with my favorite Keds kicks and I love how they dress down the look a bit so it was perfect for lunch with my family and then running a few errands afterwards!  I will definitely be returning to No Rest for Bridget soon!

THINGS I’M LOVING THIS MONTH: JULY

5D0C12E5-21EF-4B8F-9A85-F1BAFC04741B copy

Hi lovelies!

Can you believe we’re already heading into August?!  The summer is going by so fast, I swear it’s going to be Christmas time before we know it!  With the end of the month comes time for another post on things I’ve been loving this month.  So if you’re interested in hearing more about my July obsessions, just keep reading!

1. Liquid blendercleanser

My beautyblender is definitely my most-used makeup tool.  I use it every day so, respectively, it also gets the most wear and tear.  I used to use the beautyblender solid soap and I felt that it was doing a sufficient job cleansing but then my sister actually purchased a bottle of the liquid soap and I fell in love.  The liquid soap really gets my beautyblender feeling like new and I am confident that it is clean and not worrying about any lingering dirt in my pores.  Total game changer for me guys, I definitely recommend it if you’re a beautyblender user, and if you aren’t, then I doubly recommend that!

2. Too Faced Love Light Prismatic Highlighter

This line of highlighters is fairly new and with how much I love all things Too Faced, of course I had to give them a try.  I’ve been in the market for an intense highlight shade since my Becca Champagne Pop is a bit more on the gold side, and that is definitely what I got with the shade Blinded by the Light.  It is a beautiful highlight shade, super pigmented, and perfect for that summertime glow!  Plus, how adorable is this packaging?!

3. Tory Burch Miller Sandals

These sandals have been on my wishlist forever!  I’ve love the simple, yet elegant vibe that they bring to a look.  I finally caved and picked them up at Nordstrom and I am so so glad that I did!  I wear them almost every day!  They are so comfortable and go with basically everything!  The only thing that I will note is that they do run a bit on the small side.  I’m normally a size 8 but after trying them on, I purchased these in 8.5 and they’re actually a bit snug but I think they will stretch some as I wear them so they should be perfect after I break them in a bit more.

4. Eyebuy Direct Digital Screen Protection Glasses

Like a lot of you, I’m sure, I spend a ton of time in front of my computer screen.  I had seen this site mentioned on a few different YouTube channels and I knew that one of their primary products were advertised as lenses containing blue light or digital protection.  The site is fairly inexpensive and super easy to use- if you already wear prescription glasses, all you have to do is enter your current prescription and choose whether or not to add the digital protection.  I wear them whenever I sit down at my computer to work and don’t have to worry about straining my eyes starting at the screen!

Until August!  Thanks for reading!

EYESHADOW PALETTE COMPARISON

5F8AC747-F97D-47C5-AC7F-4ADF372FD21A

Hi lovelies!

Happy Thursday!!  Today I’m going to be comparing some of my favorites in my guilty pleasure makeup item- eyeshadow palettes!  I can’t seem to resist them, even though I definitely have a ‘few’ more than I could ever need.   So if you’re interested in what I think about some of the different palettes I’ve tried, just keep reading!

1. Natural Love by Too Faced- $59

Of course I have not one, but two palettes by my beloved Too Faced in this list.  I love all of their palettes but this is one that particularly stands out to me.  There are so many different colors and I love all of the neutral tones so much.  My only issue is that there aren’t as many matte colors as I would like for blending in the crease.  This palette is limited-edition so if you’re interested, definitely grab one before they’re gone!

2. Modern Renaissance by Anastasia Beverly Hills- $42

This is the perfect burgundy palette- it has so many amazing colors to work with and create a ton of wearable looks.  The eyeshadows are super pigmented and vibrant, they do usually leave quite a lot of fallout though so if you’re using this palette, I recommend doing your eyes before your base so you can clean up the fallout when you’ve finished with the eyes.

3. Tartelette In Bloom by Tarte- $46

This one is the newest edition to my palette collection.  So far, I’m really liking it.  The majority of the colors are very pigmented and you can create a lot of different looks with them- from light daytime wear to a stunning smokey eye for an evening out.  Some of the glittery colors aren’t as pigmented as I would like but that’s an easy fix with a fixing spray or cut crease so I still love them!

4. Sweet Peach by Too Faced- $49

I decided to save the best for last!  The Sweet Peach palette is my holy grail eyeshadow palette!  If you’re only going to purchase one palette in your life, I recommend this one!  The colors are STUNNING and so pigmented!  Plus the whole palette smells like peaches and has the cutest packaging- you just can’t go wrong with this one, guys.

What are your favorite eyeshadow palettes?  Thanks for reading!

CHAMBRAY A-LINE SKIRT

Hi lovelies!

Happy Monday!  Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend!  I spent yesterday with some of my favorite weekend activities- eating brunch and window shopping!  I noticed this adorable wallpaper on one of the walls near the restaurant and I could not help but stop to take a few photos even though I wasn’t actually planning on taking any blog shots sooo please excuse my lack of any accessorizing and messy hair because you know sometimes life calls for some spur of the moment photos and you just gotta roll with it, right?

So today I’m going to be talking about this super cute A-Line skirt that I picked up recently on sale from Madewell!  It’s made of a soft chambray material and has button detailing lining the entire length of both sides.  One thing that I really like about it is the midi length.  I usually favor maxi skirts but the length of this one is so much fun and perfect for summer and heading into fall.  For this look, I paired the skirt with a ribbed sweater tank, which is also on sale right now at Madewell.  I love that the slouchy silhouette of this tank brings a nice relaxed vibe to the look.  I only recently started shopping at Madewell because they opened a store in my local mall and so far I am loving everything that I have found there, especially when they have great sales going like they do now!  The online sale ends today though so definitely go check it out before its gone!

On a side note, can we talk about this purse?!  A friend saw it at the Kate Spade Outlet and knew it was so me so she sent me some photos and picked it up for me.  I’m obsessed and my inner crazy cat lady is just head over heels in love with it!

EVERY DAY MAKEUP ROUTINE

Photo Jul 20, 5 00 03 PM

Hi Lovelies!

Today I’m going to be talking about my every day makeup routine!  Depending on what I have going on for the day, my routine does vary a bit but this is my basic look if I’m planning on heading out for a few errands or just going to work.  All-in-all, it takes me about twenty minutes to throw on my makeup in the mornings.  So if you’re interested in learning how I achieve this look, just keep reading!

  1. Primer: I have rather large pores, especially in the area around my nose so I love the Benefit Cosmetics Porefessional Primer as a base for my makeup.  I gently massage it into the center of my face and work it outward to cover my face.
  2. Concealer: For covering dark spots and acne scaring, I apply the Smashbox Studio Skin Concealer with my beautyblender.  I apply a shade the same color as my skin tone to my scaring and let it sit for about a minute before blending it out and then I use a lighter shade under my eyes and on my eyelids to hide any discoloration there.
  3. Foundation- For average day wear, I prefer powder foundations as opposed to liquid foundations just because I feel that the lighter coverage allows my skin to breathe a little better.  My go-to brand for powder foundation is bareMinerals, I use the Loose Powder Matte Foundation and apply it with the Beautiful Finish Foundation Brush, which is great for applying the product and building up desired coverage.
  4. Bronzer- For contouring and bronzing, I use the Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Matte Bronzer on my cheekbones, forehead, and under my jawline.  I also use a blending brush to apply it to my eyelid and crease in order to add a little bit of contrast on my eyes.
  5. Blush- My go-to blush is the Too Faced Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blush in Sparkling Bellini.  I brush a small amount across my cheekbones with an angled contour brush.
  6. Highlighter- I absolutely love highlighters- they’re so stunning and fun to use!  My current highlighter obsession is the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter in Champagne Pop.  I lightly dust it above my cheek bones and then I use my finger to also apply it under my eyebrows for my brow bone highlight and in the inner corner of my eyes to brighten them up a bit.
  7. Brows- I like to keep my eyebrows very natural looking for daytime wear and also am usually running a bit late at this point in the routine so I turn to a tinted brow gel rather than a pencil or other brow product to save time.  Lashfood Browfood Tinted Brow Enhancing Gelfix is great because it is formulated for the product to cling to eyebrows as it is applied so it makes your eyebrows look fuller in addition to holding them in place.
  8. Mascara- For mascara I use the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara.  I have this mascara in both the regular and waterproof formulas and both are great so if you haven’t tried it, I definitely recommend that you do!

And that’s it!  Thanks for reading!
